pilatus pilsner

crisp complexity

July 2 is Pilatus Day at Axemann Brewery!
Pilatus, brewed with Germanic malts, hops, and yeast, is a traditional German style Pilsner. The malt body is soft but complex and offers a slightly nutty, toasty finish. Tettnanger hops balance the flavors in signature Bavarian fashion!

backstory

Pilatus Pilsner is named for Mount Pilatus in Lucerne, Switzerland.
This mountain features Pilatusbahn – the steepest rack railway in the world with its maximum gradient of 48%. The uphill climb (15,151 feet) takes 30 minutes to reach the summit – elevation of 2,073 meters.
While on vacation (July 2, 2018), your favorite Brewery owner, Rod Stahl, decided to go for a run... Up. The. Mountain. Yeah, the one with the uphill climb of over 15,000 feet!

Halfway there, he realized this was a challenging run and he had no water. He took the picture at right. And yes, he did snag a drink from the goat's water trough!

Thanks to Rod's sacrifice, YOU don't have to drink goat water - you can drink Pilatus Pilsner! :)

While almost every mountain in Switzerland has a railway, only Mount Pilatus has a dragon, or at least a dragon legend. In the Middle Ages, people believed that dragons with healing powers lived inside the Pilatus…

We believe it still. Harness the healing power of Pilatus Pilsner!

Pilatus Pilsner brings all of these stories together, both on the label and in the makeup of the beer.
Reach the summit of beer enjoyment with a crisp clean pilsner that will heal your soul.

(There are more interesting references about Mount Pilatus, such as “Pileatus” means “wearing a hat”.
And it is also said that Mount Pilatus was named after Pontius Pilate.)
